Art, entertainment, outdoor adventures, food, beer...PT
has it all!
Forget about all the guidebooks you may have read describing Port Townsend
(locals call it "PT") as a "lovely Victorian Seaport." If you are
interested in this property then you, like us, probably are not really into the
whole Victorian thing. Of course there are many lovingly restored historic buildings,
homes, and bed & breakfasts (including a Victorian Festival) but it is everything
else that brought most of us here.
When I think of PT the words that come to
mind are funky, artsy, fun, at times whacky and always beautiful. The town,
the mountains (Cascades AND Olympics), the beaches, and perhaps most importantly
the people are all beautiful. It's a truly special place where you can still
sit at a lunch counter in the local pharmacy, buy
bread from a local bakery, beer from local breweries, fish from local fisherman,
coffee from local roasters–all of it not just local, but AMAZINGLY good!
You can go to a play, see a movie at perhaps the best theater in the entire country,
stay out late dancing to live music, walk the beaches, hike in the Olympics,
kayak in the straits and just about everything in between.
PT is not like any place else. It has held onto, and continues
to develop its own unique personality. It has (so far) successfully resisted
the chain and big-box stores that have created a "sameness" is most
of the rest of the country. The bumper sticker that you are most likely to see
in PT really says it best:
"We're all here because we're not all there."
There are so many things to do in PT we could write a book
about it. Instead, we'll provide you with a short list of our favorite places
and activities (at left) along with a few links to sites where you can get an
overview of our fair city.
